You will be picked up by your guide from Alexandria upon your cruise ship arrival. Meet him by the exit door, he will hold a sign with your name on it. Then you will be driven to Cairo by an air-conditioned vehicle.
Your first stop will be at the Giza Plateau where sits the legendary Pyramids and iconic Sphinx figure. Marvel at these incredible architectural feats that even to this day puzzle archaeologists, The Pyramids were built as tombs for the Ancient Egyptian Kings and Queens. Gaze in awe at Khufu, Chefren and Mycerinus. Step inside of one of these monuments and explore its passageways and corridors. Then proceed to visit the Great Sphinx, the head of a Pharaoh with a Lion’s body, which dates from the time of Chephren, Leaving the Pyramids behind us, you will travel on to the necropolis of Saqqara, brimming with sand strewn temples, ancient tombs and the site of Djoser’s Step Pyramid— constructed by Imhotep, the Pharaoh’s chief architect in 2700 BC. Then proceed to have lunch at local restaurant before heading to your hotel. Overnight in Cairo.
Breakfast at your hotel, then you will be escorted by your tour guide to the world-renowned Museum of the Egyptian Antiquities, Housing 165,000 Egyptian artifacts, The Egyptian Museum in Cairo attracts millions of visitors each year. The highlight for most is the rooms containing the priceless treasures of King Tutankhamen. The Royal Mummies Room (additional cost) is another highlight of the Egyptian Museum. Proceed with your Egyptologist for a fantastic tour of the massive medieval Saladin Citadel, once a stronghold against the Crusader. This ancient fortress takes your breath away with its brilliant domed ceilings, suspended lights, and commanding views of Cairo. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Continue driving to the area of Islamic Cairo, where you will be able to explore Khan el Khalili bazaar, one of the city’s major souks (open-air marketplaces). Bargaining is expected, so prepare to negotiate and test your negotiating skills.
After that, you will be driven back to Alexandria, in time for your cruise ship’s departure.
