Philae Temple, High Dam and the Unfinished Obelisk

Departure time

As per your request, at (8:00 am or 9:00 am or 10:00 am or 11:00 am, etc.).

Pick up from your Aswan hotel or cruise ship and travel to the High Dam of Aswan, an engineering miracle when it built in 1960, and incorporating 16 times the amount of material that went into the Great Pyramid at Giza.

Proceed to the impressive granite quarries and site of the Unfinished Obelisk. Illustrating the skills of Egypt’s stonemasons, this monolith is one-third taller than any other ancient Egyptian obelisk. Later, Ride Like a Local around the Aswan islands in a felucca, weather permitting.

Ride a motorised boat to Philae Temple, UNESCO natural heritage on the island of Agilika. This sacred complex was dedicated to the Goddess Isis and reflects a fusion of three great civilisations Egyptian, Greek and Roman. The temple dismantled and then painstakingly reassembled when the construction of the High Dam caused surrounding Nile waters to rise. Philae Temple has a beautiful setting on an island in the river which has been landscaped to match its original site. Later, Ride Like a Local around the Aswan islands in a felucca.
