Fayoum
The nearest oasis to Cairo, a rich agricultural region, is noted for its giant antique waterwheels, driven solely by the force of the stream. This lovely pastoral area is also rich in antiquities of the Middle Kingdom and Greco-Roman periods.
Major points of interest include the pyramid complex of Amenemhat III; El Lahun, Pyramid of Senusert II: the ruins at Medinet Madi, Qasr Qarun, and Karanis; and Kim Oshim, a small museum displaying artifacts found throughout the area.
El Wadi El Gadeed ( The New Valley )
Located in the West desert 625 Kms. From west of Cairo, it is the largest of Egypt’s governorates. It comprises three main Oasis; Al Kharga, the capital, Al Dakhla and Al Farafra. They are amongst the most important tourist attractions. Rich in antiquities dating to different ages, the Oasis are characterized by security, tranquility, warmth, mild climate and dry weather. They comprise sulphur-rich springs both hot and cold, which allow the Oasis to be international health spas.
Siwa Oasis
About 306 Kms. South West of Marsa Matrouh and 627 Kms. From Cairo, this Oasis is renowned for its beautiful scenery, thick groves of Palm and Olive trees, water springs, and the surrounding mountains. Named by the Pharaohs “Shali”, it has several Pharaonic and Roman ruins. It has a steady climate, chilly in winter, hot in summer and moderate in spring and autumn.
